Uganda's gorilla parks are a very long way from its international airport by road, and the domestic air network exists precisely to solve that. Scheduled flights run Entebbe to Kihihi airstrip for Bwindi's northern sectors, with a 4x4 waiting at the airstrip.

You lose two days of driving and gain an afternoon in the forest. For anyone flying in from Europe or the States with limited leave, this is the version of a Uganda gorilla trek we recommend most often.

Day by day

The 3 days

  1. Day 1

    Fly Entebbe to Kihihi

A morning scheduled flight of around 1 hour 15 minutes over Lake Victoria, the crater lakes and the Rwenzori foothills. Met at the airstrip and driven an hour to your lodge at Buhoma. Afternoon community walk or the Munyaga River trail.

  2. Day 2

    Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Briefing at 07:00 at the Buhoma headquarters. Two to five hours of trekking, one hour with the family, and the whole afternoon free — which is exactly what the flight buys you.

  3. Day 3

    Fly Kihihi to Entebbe

A relaxed morning, then the transfer to the airstrip and an afternoon flight back to Entebbe, connecting to an evening international departure.

US$2,750per person sharing, from US$2,750 per person sharing in mid-range lodges, including both flights. US$4,900 in the top Buhoma lodges. Private charter available if the schedule doesn't suit.

Questions about this trip

What is the baggage limit on Uganda's domestic flights?

15 kg per person including hand luggage, in soft-sided bags — hard cases are not accepted. Excess can usually be bought, and lodges in Entebbe will store what you leave behind.

Kihihi or Kisoro?

Kihihi serves Buhoma and Ruhija in northern Bwindi; Kisoro serves Rushaga and Nkuringo in the south. We book the airstrip that matches your permit, never the other way round.
