THREE COUNTRIES, FIVE PARKS

Gorilla safari destinations

Mountain gorillas live in two forests. Eastern lowland gorillas live in one more. Here is what each one is like.

Countries

Uganda

Two gorilla parks, around half the world's mountain gorillas, a US$800 permit and the best wider safari in the region — chimpanzees, savannah, the Nile and boat safaris. Our home country and where three quarters of our travellers trek.

Rwanda

One gorilla park, two hours from an international airport, a US$1,500 permit and the smoothest logistics anywhere in East Africa. The right answer for short trips and for travellers who want the region's best lodges.

DR Congo

The cheapest mountain gorilla permit at US$400 and the only place to trek eastern lowland gorillas. Access depends entirely on current security, which we monitor and report on honestly.
